Due to our continued growth we have an opening for a trainee accountant to join our team on an apprenticeship programme.

Training & Development

The apprenticeship programme will involve studying for the AAT qualification at a professional training college.

Scullard are also an approved training employer of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales so there is the opportunity to train as a Chartered Accountant after completing the apprenticeship. We are fully committed to helping you develop as an accountant and as an individual and so will provide full study support for the AAT qualification.

Skills Desired

Ideally, you will have completed A-Levels and have, or expect to receive, at least BBC grades (or equivalent) and good GCSEs in Maths and English.

The Role

The role will report into the Managing Director who will also oversee your internal training and development. You will therefore be working closely with, and supervised by, a Fellow of the ICAEW with a number of years’ experience.

You will be responsible for dealing with a varied range of tasks and a varied portfolio of small business and private clients.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing monthly/quarterly management accounts
  • Preparation of VAT returns
  • Preparation of year end final accounts
  • Preparation of year end Corporation Tax returns
  • Preparation of personal tax returns
  • Dealing with routine queries from clients
  • Various administrative tasks

There is a competitive starting salary of £10,000 pa (£192.30 per week). There will be regular and frequent salary reviews and increases based on agreed milestones. It is therefore perfectly possible for the salary to increase significantly through the year and year on year.

You will receive 20 days annual leave plus bank holidays. You will also receive an additional day of annual leave on your birthday. We believe no-one should have to work on their birthday!

As there is full study support with this role there will be a formal day release policy for college attendance.
